Grandview Medical Center Fights Hunger Through Its Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive

Drive collects 7,804 jars for Grace Klein Community and the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, AL ---- Thanks to our employees and community support, Grandview Medical Center collected 7,804 jars of peanut butter through our third annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive benefitting the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama and Grace Klein Community. This coincides with National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day on April 2, 2024.
Peanut butter is a sought after item for food banks because of its high nutritional value and long shelf life. Yet, it is one of the least donated items.
“We recognize the impact hunger has on an individual’s health and wellbeing, and we want to help those in our community who are struggling with food insecurity,” said Daniel McKinney, CEO of Grandview. “I am proud of our team for their significant support of this project and the fact that this year we doubled the number of jars collected from the previous year. Our Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive has been a great way to partner with community members to reduce hunger in our area.”
In Birmingham, food insecurity is a significant issue with approximately 21.3% of the city’s population experiencing food insecurity. The issue is particularly pronounced among children. Approximately 76,000 children in Birmingham experiencing food insecurity.
