Grandview Medical Center First in Southeast to Earn Cardiac Electrophysiology Accreditation

Birmingham, AL (Feb. 7, 2017) --- Grandview Medical Center is the first and only hospital in the Southeast, and one of four in the country, to earn Cardiac Electrophysiology Accreditation by the Heart Rhythm Society / Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).
Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) is the specialty that cares for patients with heart rhythm disorders, such as atrial fibrillation – or AFib. In the United States, nearly four million people have AFib which increases the risk of a stroke and may lead to heart failure and other symptoms. “There are many treatment options, but early intervention is the key to treating AFib. Our treatment is aimed at decreasing the stroke risk with medications, procedures such as AFib ablation, or other measures to try to restore the normal rhythm,” explained Jose Osorio, MD, cardiac electrophysiologist and medical director of the EP Lab at Grandview.
Grandview Medical Center has a dedicated team of doctors, nurses and technicians who specialize in Electrophysiology with a specific focus on AFib care. “The training, ongoing education and experience of our staff performing procedures, as well as the equipment, facility and protocols we have created all contribute to a positive patient outcome,” said Dr. Osorio.
“We had a commitment to develop one of the top Electrophysiology programs from every aspect. Our goal was to have the best patient experience and outcomes. The accreditation from the HRS/IAC recognized the Electrophysiology Lab and care we are providing, and it also helped us improve the overall quality of our program,” said Dr. Osorio.
